kiddos: 80's MTV style

I recently purchased my first-ever brand-new laptop. Not only that, it's the kind that allows me entry into a strange and elite circle of people united by secret knowledge and mysterious initiation rituals (i.e. My new laptop is a Mac). It sure is fun to be part of the "inner circle" finally. So here is one of the fun and goofy things it allows me to do to pictures. And this particular pic was actually taken by my Mac's built-in I-Sight camera.

This is the view from our roof.
That's the Statue of Liberty in the distance.

The Price of Parenting

I apologize for the recent paucity of blogging. Very little free time lately. I should have more time, and original thought, after our church's fall retreat this weekend. In the meantime, one more link. This article on The Outsourced Parent ran a few weeks ago in New York Magazine. It playfully details the "price" of raising a kid from pregnancy to 18 years of age. Before you laugh bemusedly, though, consider that many of the opportunities for outsourcing they describe are taken advantage of quite often in a place like New York. Also, in this week's letters to the editor a stay-at-home-mom did the math and found that, according to the article, her labors were worth over 100,000 dollars a year--per child! No doubt this is true, and that's only taking into consideration the economic worth of her work.
